Some friends of mine and I went to visit the Pine Mountain Wild Animal Park this past weekend. It was a wonderful experience. We drove our vehicle through the park and purchased food at the ticket desk. You are so close to the animals and they eat right out of your hand. We saw zebras, zeedonks, antelop, elk, water buffalo, deer, cows, ostrich, peacock, camels, giraffe, etc. It was an amazing experience and we are already planning our trip back. TripAdvisor.com User

One of the most beautiful spots in the South, Callaway Gardens embraces 14,000 acres of gardens, woodlands, and lakes, with wildlife and outdoor activities. Some 750,000 visitors are attracted to this site annually, especially in spring when its Azalea Trail displays some 700 colorful varieties. But every season brings something new into bloom, from rhododendron and holly trails to wildflowers.
Callaway Gardens at Pine Mountain was begun back in the 1930s. Cason Callaway, head of one of Georgia's most prosperous textile mills, once said, "All I've done is try to fix it so that anybody who came here would see something beautiful wherever he might look." He set about rebuilding the soil, nurturing and importing plant life, building the largest man-made inland beach in the world, and providing inn and cottage accommodations -- and opened it all to citizens of modest means.

Feathered ambassadors with a story to tell about man's influence on the survival of wildlife make the Callaway's Birds of Prey show much more than just entertainment. The magnificent birds of Prey featured in these outdoor, free-flighted shows, demonstrate their strength, speed and natural instincts at a lakeside amphitheater that allows the creatures to swoop directly over spectators' heads. This is a rare opportunity to see these birds up-close and to learn how our actions can endanger the survival of these innocent, yet mighty, birds. More about the Callaway Gardens Birds of Prey

Laurel Springs Trail
The Laurel Springs Trail loops through an excellent example of an Appalachian hardwood forest and a mountain laurel thicket along the slope of Pine Mountain Ridge.
This rustic trail offers a moderately challenging walk in a secluded setting.
Walkers follow the edge of Laurel Springs Creek to its headspring at the base of a large tulip tree.
Interpretation allows a self-guided tour along the trail.
The trees along the Pine Mountain Ridge were once predominantly longleaf pine. Today, along this trail you see what is primarily an oak and hickory forest.
